A change to the population estimates that CDC uses to calculate age-adjusted death rates prevents these rates from being calculated at the county level or by urbanization categories (since each category represents a group of counties) after data year 2020. The population estimates, produced by the U.S. Census Bureau suppress the number of persons less than five years of age at the county level to comply with Census' privacy policies. This prevents CDC from calculating age-adjusted death rates at the county level or by level of urbanization. SHADAC will monitor this issue to see if is possible to produce age-adjusted death rates by urbanization in the future.

N/A indicates that data are suppressed because the rate is based on 20 or fewer deaths.

For estimates by metropolitan status, N/A or "No Data" can also indicate that data for a particular metropolitan category don’t exist in a state (e.g., Wyoming has no large-metro suicide rate because it has no population classified as large metro).
